Phyllis unites the passion of an artist with the sensitivity of an educator as she enlightens young rninds with a variety of musical traditions - empowering students to become active creators. Her residencies allow students to fully experience music as audience members, instrument builders, composers, and performers. Phyllis arouses her students' individual creativity while she encourages them to gather everyday themes and ideas, shape them within the framework of music and express them as an art form.

Phyllis Dunne's music makes me smile! And as I'm smiling I take a moment to stop and ask 'How does she do it?' That she was blessed with the voice of an angel is apparent after first hearing her sing. That her dulcimer playing is distinctly her own while paying respect to the old masters, that she respects and knows the old songs and traditions is quite clear, but the way she can breath life into the old songs is true artistry! But Phyllis Dunne being an artist is not what makes me smile! What makes me smile is her ability to share her gifts and talents with her audience. Simply, truthfully, and from the heart! That's why Phyllis Dunne makes me smile! I love to hear Phyllis Dunne play and sing! ... She's also a good cook!

The name Phyllis Dunne would be found on anyone's short list of the best acoustic musicians working in the Omaha area. She accompanies herself on the piano or mountain dulcimer and is blessed with one of the loveliest natural vocal instruments around. She treats her material with loving respect and boasts a broad repertory of both contemporary and folk music.
