Jingle Sticks
Opera? You mean those guys in tights and women with horns on their heads who sing TOO high! Find out what opera really is about. Act, sing, and write a modern recitative (rap). Keep the beat going on your jingle stick.
Suggested minimum age: Grade 5.
Materials needed per student:
- one 8" length of 1/2 X 3/4 WP Parting stop
- 4 bottle caps
- 2 nails, wide heads
- optional four 8 inch pieces of curling ribbon or yarn
Tools:
- hammer
- large board to use for pounding surface
- colored permanent markers
- scissors
Schedule
- Day 1 Act out dialogue.
Act and sing dialogue.
Introduce operatic aria and recitative.
Groups write raps.
- Day 2 Make jingle sticks.
Rehearse raps.
- Day 3 Perform.
